Travel and Lodging Guide

Our resources to help you have the most incredible trip of your life.

  • Get here.

Aspen is most easily accessed via Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE). Once you arrive at ASE, you can easily access most lodging options via free busses (RFTA), hotel shuttles, High Mountain Taxi, and car rentals conveniently located in the terminal.

The next closest airport is Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE). EGE is 65 miles away and a rental car is the easiest way to get to Aspen.

Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) and Denver International Airport (DEN) are also options if you are able to rent a vehicle.

The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA, pronounced "rafta") offers free service in and between Aspen, ASE, and Snowmass Village. The Castle-Maroon (CM) route runs right to Aspen High School, our camp location! While it requires one transfer if travelling from Snowmass Village, we will provide specific instructions for attendees wishing to utilize the free, fast, safe, and frequent bus system. Click here to learn more about RFTA.

United is Aspen Fencing Camp's airline of choice. The vast majority of flights into ASE, GJT, and DEN are on United. EGE is primarily served by American. Use the button below to book your airfare and car rental with United and help support Aspen Fencing Camp's grant program. Stays booked via the same button also support grantees.

  • Stay here.

Aspen sits at the upper end of the Roaring Fork Valley in Central Colorado. Along with Snowmass Village, which is just a few miles from downtown Aspen, there are numerous accommodation options. From ultra-luxe hotels to cozy lodges, there is a stay for every style and budget. Many short term rentals are also available.

For those willing to do a little extra travel and explore "downvalley" as we locals call it, there are unique as well as more cost-conscious lodging selections: Explore Basalt, a quiet midvalley art mecca. Bustle in Willits, a hub of modern amenities and accommodations. Or get quirky in Carbondale, where cowboys and hippies live side-by-side.

Trivago consistently captures the most options and best prices for stays from Aspen to Glenwood, including short term rental units. It is the site we use to book for visiting family and friends and is an easy choice as our lodging website of choice.

We have very limited guest lodging with local host families available to grant recipients. Please indicate on your application if you are interested in staying with a Roaring Fork Fencers Club member family.

  • Ski here.

Aspen Snowmass should be at the top of every skier's and snowboarder's bucket list. The "Power of Four" is felt in the four unique mountains that make up the combined resort and which are all accessed on the same pass.

Aspen Mountain (or "Ajax" to us locals) is both prime celebrity spotting as well as surprisingly spicy skiing. With slopes that literally run down to the core of the town of Aspen, it is the hill that started it all.

Aspen Highlands is home to Cloud 9, likely the craziest (and spendiest) party cabin in North America. It is also home to the legendary Highlands Bowl, 270 acres of breathtaking big mountain skiing exclusively accessed via hiking.

Buttermilk might sit right across the road from ASE, but the recently renovated base area and abundance of beginner to intermediate terrain make it a hit with both families and learners.

Snowmass is the largest ski area among the Four Mountains. The base area boasts many ski-in/ski-out properties as well as several large hotels. Meanwhile, expansive groomers and glades invite exploration while alpine cirques and hanging valleys await any challenger in need of an adrenaline rush.

Use the button below to request discounted ski passes useable at all Four Mountains. A portion of proceeds go to support grant awards.
